Rowe & King Summer Series at Maindy Stadium

Rowe & King summer series at Maindy Stadium, Cardiff for Vets, 2/3/4 Cat riders starting Wednesday 13 April 2016.

Maindy Stadium is where Luke Rowe’s career started, and is the venue which has played host to the career development of countless professional cyclists, including Geraint Thomas, Dani King, Nicole Cooke and more.

Rowe & King felt it fitting to put something back in to the sport, helping to improve the standard of cycling in South Wales.

Welsh Cycling have a number of initiatives to help the next generation of cyclist for Go Ride to the Welsh Cycling Youth Programme. Rowe & King are to focus on the new breed of cyclist, the MAMIL’s (Middle Aged Men In Lycra). MAMIL’s, typically 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders, who may have entered in to the sport with little or no club experience.

Rowe & King Summer Series will not only feature racing, but also an opportunity to hear some rider perspective commentary on each race being held.

First race will be the Vets only, where Rowe & King will provide commentary (using a loud speaker) on the race, giving pointers and tips to help those riders newer to the sport, pick up on some of the tactics and positioning, to help improve their ability to ride in a bunch and compete.

We are hoping the idea will prove beneficial for all in attendance.

Racing will feature

  • Vets and women of all ages
  • 2/3/4 Cat
  • 4th Cat only

4th Category will get the opportunity to race on their own, where they can put some tactics in to practice, as opposed to being out of their depth and only being able to follow the wheel in front, which is often the case when mixed with 3rd Category riders.
